Getting started with maxDEV on macOS, Windows, and Linux.
maxDEV is a cross-platform desktop application. Maintaining compatibility with different platforms presents specific challenges. This documentation page serves as a guide to get you started on your selected operating system.
Download maxDEV
You can download maxDEV for one of the supported operating systems via our download page:
Installation
Currently, maxDEV is available for macOS, Windows, and Linux.
The macOS version is notarized and signed using our developer account. This means when you download and try to open the app, Apple won’t block it.
The Windows version is not signed yet and requires some extra steps during the installation. More about this below.
The Linux version can be installed via .deb or .tar.gz files. See the Download page for details.
Installing maxDEV on macOS
Step 1: Download and extract the zip file
We support Apple Silicon and Intel versions of macOS. Use the Download page to automatically detect the necessary binary, or visit GitHub Releases for manual selection.
Step 2: Click Open on the macOS dialog box
When you open the app for the first time, macOS shows the above dialog. Click Open to continue.
Installing maxDEV on Windows
Step 1: Select the installer type and download
For Windows, we support .exe, .msix, and .appinstaller installer versions. Use the Download page to select the necessary version and download it.
Step 2: Allow Permission to Open the app
If you selected the .exe installer version, you might see the following notification dialog:
Since the Windows version has not been signed yet, Windows shows that dialog. Click “More Info” and then “Run anyway“:
Step 3: Wait for the installation to finish
Please wait while the app installs itself and start maxDEV from the Start menu.
Installing maxDEV on Linux
Step 1: Select the installation option
For Linux, you can download a .deb file or install it using the command line. Visit the Download page and select Linux as a platform for more details.
